The Château de Crazannes is a magnificent listed castle built in the late 14th century on the site of an 11th century fortress, of which still remain a chapel, a keep and the moats. Altered in the 16th century and 18th century this castle was a stopping place on the way to Santiago de Compostella. The Black Prince stayed here in 1362 and so did the French king François the first in 1519. The marquis of Carabas, one of the owners, earned it the name of the Château « du Chat Botté » (Puss in Boots castle). The flamboyant Gothic north wall is decked out with a wonderful fantasmagorical decor. Its large façade, sculpted during the 15th century, is of exceptional quality and shows the welcome given to the Compostelan pilgrims and several medieval legends. A lot of graceful or ludicrous figures, animals and symbols live up the decor. The Château of Crazannes, sumptuously restored, possesses unique fireplaces and interesting sculpted ceiling.
